Growing Greener in Southwest Michigan

The Growing Greener project was intiated in 2006 with a small grant from Michigan State University, Land Policy Institute. Project partners include several townships, cities, villages, land conservancies, conservation districts, watershed groups and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. A modeling project mapping potential conservation areas in the three county area was completed. A survey of residents was completed with assistance from Michigan State University. SWMPC is working with cities, townships, villages and counties to address and plan for green infrastructure in land use and recreation plans. Public input meetings to develop a three county green infrastructure vision are being planned for 2009.
