The Maryland Water Monitoring Council will hold its 17th Annual Conference at the Maritime Institute, North Linthicum, on Thursday, December 1, 2011. Details are avialable at www.marylandwatermonitoring.org.

The theme of the one day conference is Think Baywide, Act Streamside: Implementing the Chesapeake Bay TMDL. A morning plenary session will include a keynote address by Jeff Corbin, EPA’s Senior Advisor for the Chesapeake Bay and five concurrent sessions with up to three talks each. Session topics currently include The Federal Urban Waters Initiative, Environmental Justice in Water Issues, The Baltimore Reservoir Technical Workgroup, Volunteer Monitoring, The Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan, Innovative Monitoring Methods, Maryland’s NPDES Stormwater Program, Effective Communication of Scientific Information, and a special “How to” session on water monitoring techniques.

The registration fee, which includes a booklet of abstracts and lunch, is $70. To save money, the early-bird registration fee (postmarked before November 18, 2011) is $55. The early registration fee for presenters is $50. Discounts for full-time students and non-profit organizations are also available on a first come, first served basis. First Call for Papers and Posters

We are requesting titles and abstracts for contributed papers (oral presentations in the technical sessions) and posters. Authors are encouraged to include in their papers or posters any information relevant to the conference theme. Abstracts submitted for oral presentations should describe completed projects with documented results. Abstracts that focus on project plans or updates to projects in progress are more suitable for posters. See the First Call for Papers and Posters for more information.
