In Memory of Dr. Mark A. Benedict

Mark Benedict

On December 22, 2006, the world lost a great conservationist. Mark Benedict, founder of the Conservation Fund's Green Infrastructure Program passed away after an intense battle with cancer.

Co-author of Green Infrastructure: Linking Landscapes and Communities, published in 2006 by Island Press, Mark helped develop the tools and training programs the Fund uses to assist communities to identify open space goals and plan development in coordination with them. His legacy lives on through his course, Strategic Conservation Planning Using a Green Infrastructure Approach.

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, a grove of American Elm Trees will be dedicated to Mark's memory at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV. Family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Mark Benedict will gather to celebrate Mark’s life and life-long passion for conservation. Please RSVP to mcarey@conservationfund.org

A scholarship fund has been established to honor the life and work of Mark Benedict. This scholarship fund will be used to assist students to attend offerings of this course.
