NARC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization, which advocates for building regional communities through the representation of multi-purpose, multi-jurisdictional regional councils (RCs) and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs). These organizations serve local elected officials and community leaders in developing common strategies for addressing complex issues, in the areas of transportation, economic development, homeland security, and environmental challenges.
NARC is a unique alliance, representing local elected officials, RCs and MPOs nationwide. Of the 39,000 local governments in the U.S. (counties, cities, townships, etc), 35,276 are served by RCs. NARC’s membership of nearly 250 organizations represents approximately 97 percent of the counties and 99 percent of the population in the U.S.
NARC encourages and supports its membership in incorporating green infrastructure into their regional planning efforts. With the support of the U.S. Forest Service, NARC holds workshops on green infrastructure at its national conferences, disseminates green infrastructure information and best practices specific to regions, and provides mini-grants to Regional Centers of Excellence in green infrastructure and Landcare.
More information is available on NARC's website (www.NARC.org) and the Green Regions Campaign website (www.GreenRegions.org).
